Ratings websites

I've come across negative comments about me on a teachers ‘ratings' website, what should I do?

The Web provides a platform for young people to express their opinions - and that includes about your teaching ability.

Websites like the US-based www.ratemyteachers.com allow students to name their teachers and critique their work.

RateMyTeachers, which has over 10 million ratings, has strict guidelines about what can be posted and reviews all postings before they are published. It does not allow references to teachers' personal lives or appearance, vulgar or sexual language, and threatening or inappropriate messages, for example.

If you're concerned about a comment on a teachers ‘ratings' website, contact the site provider and ask them to investigate whether it contravenes their terms of service.

On RateMyTeachers, for example, you can request that a particular comment is reviewed again by clicking on the red flag just before the teacher's name.
